hey thanks for your help i know i should be able too but my computer wont find that file if i do a search for it so how can i delete it other wise, and i only have norton antivirus

?

The file should be in the Windows directory. Where does norton say this is found?

norton say it is in C:\WINDOWS\systask321.exe

im trying to find it using search files now

is this the correct way to do it

and why could it not be finding it?

i jst ran another search just in window and it did not even find the file or folder ( that is what it is isnt it)

how can i make it find it

?

Is your search including hidden and sytem files?

Even if search isn't working for whatever reason, just use Windows Explorer to navigate to the file C:\Windows\systask321.exe and delete it.

i have made it include both of these types and alos tried to naivigate to it within windows myself, which i gather is oin alpahbetical order however it never appears as a search or within windows and just does not appear to ne there however norton aloways findin this one residual file

what is goin on

cheers for your help

FAQ760-3862 lists a number of on-line virus scanners.
Maybe one of these would help in the removal process.

the pronlem is not so much the finding the virus it the getting rid of the identified virus as it does not appear to be there in location norton specifies ill try though thank for the help

any more suggestions are welsome

Ive used an online scan a couple of times, but have never had a virus identified so I dont know how they work at that point. My thought was that if they identify a virus file, then maybe they have a procedure to get rid of it.
Since you cant find the file with normal search methods, I thought maybe using another virus scanner to find and remove it would be a possible alternative.
There are two scanners on the list that smah indicated are for individual files rather than complete directories-so I was thinking if I was in your situation, one of those particularly might be worth a try.
