We have a dos based program at our company and need to be able to map back to local printer and a folder. From the W2kpro client I am able to run vpn to W2k server. That works fine. Then I am running a terminal server session. Inside the session I need to map back to the clients printers and drive. Problem is my ip always changes and is different each time. I am new to this and have tried doing many things like using dns and wins but I still cant get this to work. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you're going to have to use the net use command to map back to those share devices.

i.e. net use \\pcname\sharedrive /persistent:yes

I have used the net use command and it works only for the private ip I get assigned when I make the VPN connection. My problem with this is as soon as my client dissconnects it gets a new and different IP address assigned and it loses it's mappings EX: net use lpt1: \\192.168.0.7\okipage
then the next time it logs in to vpn the clients Ip address is 192.168.0.10 and it cant do it's previous mapping. I have not been able to resolve names.

Why not use a share name instead on the drive itself?

I use:

net use x: \\server1\c$ /persitent:yes

or the c$ could be any folder you want your users to share to.

I suggest hosting the printer on a HP Jetdirect Printer server (Fixed IP 192.168.0.XXX) Run a script to map printer to LPT1 at logon. However I would expect hostname\sharename previously mentioned to work as well.

I had to get a hotfix from M$ after I applied that then I was able to map using the UNC name.
