hey all,

ok my windows 2008 is starting to get under my skin a bit so i figured i'd come back to the experts before i throw it lol

ok, so far, it seems to not want to allow my anti-virus to update or allow any email in from the domain.

I've disabled my firewall
I've added the trusted sites
I've disabled my antivirus to see if it'd let the email in

I'm not sure where else to look?

any help is appreciated!

Thanks

~Shmoes

Can you get to/from the Internet at all? If not, check your network configuration, especially the default gateway.

It is unclear from your post whether the firewall in question is the Windows 2008 firewall or another firewall. Windows 2008 ships with it's own firewall, and you'll need to punch holes in it for every application that accepts inbound connections.

sorry, I do not have a 3rd party firewall installed, I disabled all levels 3 levels (domain, public, profile)of the ms firewall and even went as far as disabling the service. in addition I disabled the enhanced security with no change.

I can access the internet and download just fine with IE7, the only things I've not been been able to do is update my antivirus, or download emails.

now on the email note, I just came back to find outlook cycling through the (1 of 31) emails on the pop3 server and it for some reason has allowed 1 email to get through .. but nothing else. I can download copies from the pop3 server from any non-win2k8 computer. it goes 1 of, 2 of, 3 of .. etc and then starts over.

I don't want to have the MS firewall disabled, I just can't find the source of the problem.

ok, so I thought i'd add to this to make it more bizzare

If I move all the files out of the inbox (through webmail) the send/reiceve completes fine with no errors. If I move any small files back to the inbox one at a time, they successfully download. If I send a new file that's small it goes through, but if I send something with an attachment it hangs and then times out (first time i've gotten the time out)

If i throw the profile onto another computer not win2k8, I can download copies of all the emails with no trouble at all from the same account.

I paid the $295 to microsoft, and almost 4hrs on the phone with them they couldn't resolve it either, they're calling me back in the morning :| I've been dumped to 4 different levels of tech support .. at least I don't feel bad about it being something stupid!

sigh ... and here I sit with my tail between my legs ... as it turns out the problem was my router all along. so much for it not being something stupid! lol

Even though the 2000 server worked fine, there is apparently a TCP Scaling issue with my router and Vista (in mycase 2008)

after upgrading the firmware from the linksys site the issue has been resolved.

my router is a linksys RV082
