I have a W2K3 server and applications installed on IBM server hardware. I want to do a Distaster Recovery where this can be cross restored to another hardware platform like HP. Is something like this possible?

I can't find the 2003 server version of this article but the XP one is very similare, it's worth a look too see how Windows backup works. Windows Backup (Ntbackup.exe) can handle differences in hardware configuration information between computers and maintain critical registry entries that are unique to the computer to which you are migrating information.

The main problem is if the server uses a different HAL.

It's worth mentioning that allot of people recommend building a new server and migrating applications especially if you need a very reliable server.

Yeah, I guess the better would be to have a fresh migrated application. The only real reason why I thought to have something where I'm able to cross restore is that this would be for DR purposes and I can't really spend much time doing a reconfigure and thought maybe there's a way for the HAL to crossplatform. (or something like)
