Our company has 4 locations with a Win 2003 DC in each site. The FSMO (DC1) had a journal wrap error and the FRS had stopped replicating. I tried a non-authoritative restore which didn't successfully complete and now there are no Netlogon or Sysvol shares on it.

Event Viewer shows the following.
DC1
1868 and 1869 information events in DS
13562 13508 errors in FRS

DC2
1864 errors in DS
FRS is not running

DC3
1864 errors in DS
13565 and 13508 in FRS

DC4
1864 errors in DS
13508 in FRS

DC1 & DC2 are GCs
DC1, DC2, DC3 have DNS
There is a DC5 at a fifth site that I plan to demote as dcpromo didn't successfully complete.

I am uncertain as to how to clean this up with my FSMO having these errors.
When I run dcdiag at DC1 (FSMO) it fails the Advertising test with a warning that DsGetDcName returned information for DC2, and it is not responding or considered suitable.

I feel like I've been goin in circles with this. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Thanks

So do I troubleshoot FRS first or the AD replication first?
e.g. 257338 says "FRS replication is dependent on the Active Directory to replicate ...

Thanks, that got me going the right way. On DC1 I copied the folders and files from the "NtFrs_PreExisting___See_EventLog" folder to Sysvol and did an authoritative restore, then did a non-authoritative restore on DC3 and DC4 which completed successfully.

NTFRS is not running on DC2, and it won't start. Net start ntfrs returns a message "The service is not responding to the control function.
