Hi,

We are currently running a Novell 3.12 server and are looking at integrating a w2k server into the system as a domain controller / intranet server etc. When we introduce the machine running active directory it starts arguing with the novell server and the novell server starts having heart attacks. Any ideas?

cheers

Describe the issue more clearly.

What are they arguing about?
Whats your definition of of a heart attack? (abend?)

Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?

It has been a while since we tried the integration, that is why I am a little sketchy on the description.

When the Domain Controller was introduced the Novell server essentially started to stop access to volumes and print queues and ultimately started to beep. Huge amounts of traffic were going across the network between the w2k server and the novell machine as if they were arguing about who was in control.

that is about all I can add, i certainly dont expect a definitive answer from this sketchy description, just maybe some hints about what it could be ...

thanks

Hi, SJF

Well, if the Novell server was beeping that likely means there were error messages being posted to the console. Those would be informative.

This sounds like possibly an IP address conflict or maybe both the Novell server and the domain controller are trying to allocate dynamic IP addresses. However without more information it is difficult to say.

The Novell server shouldn't care that the Win2K server is a PDC; likely it is duplication of services of some kind.

Need more information.

Best regards
Jock
