This is wrecking my head so I really need help.

I have a client who called me with problems on their PC running W2K Pro. This PC contains a business critical application which cannot be easily re-installed, ( for a number of reasons that we won;t go into here!!!).

Anyhow, I decided the best way to fix it was to do a repair on the O/S. I got the disk, started the install, se;ected the current windows installation to repair and kicked it off. After a while, it started hanging, and that's where we've been ever since. The repair is stuck, and when you reboot the PC, it comes up saying "Restarting setup", goes to the same "Please Wait" and then stops.

I'm not sure how to move this forward. I've actually installed windows on a different partition on the hard drive and I can access the data to salvage it if required, but I really need to get this installation sorted. Any help would be much appreciated by me, my client, and my family, who are not impressed that I've spent most of the weekend working on this,

Thanks

Have you run chkdsk on the partition you're trying to repair?

I am having the same identical problem on a "critical" computer of my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Again - have you run chkdsk (either from recovery console or something like BartPE disk or by slaving drive in another machine...)

and - what were problems that made you do the repair? If not hard drive problem, could they be other hardware issues (eg, bad RAM)?
