W2K Pro and Apache 2.0 conflict???

I am running W2K Pro and recently installed and configured Apache 2.0. I know the configuration was completed properly base on the directives provided by The Apache Foundation. Here's the problem I am incurring:

When I shutdown IIS and start Apache, everything runs well until I shutdown Apache. For some strange reason, Apache reboots my machine each time. It never fails. The reason why I think it's an O/S problem/issue is b/c I am running XP Pro at home (w/ SP2), same Apache config and am able to shutdown the app and continue on w/out it rebooting. Additionally, the same holds true when I use the boxes at school...they too are running XP Pro w/ SP2.

Any assistance provided is greatly welcomed!

venetianjigsaw,

Apache causes a shutdown each time on exit? Are there any error messages/log entries that occur when this happens?

Yes. Here is an example of the error log that occured this morning when I shutdown Apache:

[Mon Mar 28 08:03:11 2005] [notice] Parent: Created child process 1780
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:11 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Child process is running
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:11 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Acquired the start mutex.
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:11 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Starting 250 worker threads.
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:24 2005] [notice] Parent: Received shutdown signal -- Shutting down the server.
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:24 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Exit event signaled. Child process is ending.
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:25 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Released the start mutex
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:26 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Waiting for 250 worker threads to exit.
[Mon Mar 28 08:03:54 2005] [notice] Parent: Forcing termination of child process 252
[Mon Mar 28 08:06:26 2005] [notice] Child 1780: Terminating 1878053856 threads that failed to exit.

Any clues???

venetianjigsaw,

That looks correct for a clean shutdown of Apache. Are there any entries in the Windows XP Application or System logs?

Yes, in the System Log, I found the following error. Am presently having "issues" with App Log, but will get back w/you in just a few once I've fixed the problem.

Okay, I shutdown IIS and then started and tried to shutdown Apache. Then, while in the shutdown process, IIS, strangely, started itself again. I have the startup type set to Manual for both IIS & Apache. After about 5 minutes, my box displays a brief blue screen [of death] and then reboots. Listed is a copy of the messages from the App Log. Please note that I am not for sure if this references the Apache issue, but each time the box has rebooted, these errors are close to the top of the log. Please note that each of these is a different issue:

venetianjigsaw,

From the messages above, it looks like you have some corrupted event logs. This could possibly be causing the symptoms of blue screens and shutdowns.

has some about deleting corrupt Windows 2000 event logs that should work with Windows XP as well.
