We have a Dell Latitude CPx with W2K. The problem is when you the laptop is restarted, it freezes at W2 Professional screen. But once you restart the laptop again, it works fine. This only happens when it is connected to the docking station. The problem does not occur when it is undocked. And yes, we've already tried different docking stations. Any kind of help is appreciated...thanks..

What BIOS version do you have? I think they addressed this issue in the AO3 or AO4 BIOS update. You can now download the AO5 flashBIOS update from Dell's support website.(

Have you tried setting up a different Hardware Profile for when you want to Dock the Laptop? This COULD be part of the problem. Setting up a Docked a Profile can solve some issues with laptops when docked.

Hope this helps.

Jim

I'll check the bios version come monday and as for the profile to use for the docking station, I did change that already but to no avail. I'll let you folks know what happens next week. Thx again.

I had a similar problem with a DELL laptop cpx using win2000 release candidate 2. never did figure out the problem. I hosed it and went back to 98 til the final release came out. It seems to work fine now.

I reloaded the Bios version (A08) for the laptop and it still gives me the same problem when you reboot, the laptop hangs. I also found out that if you use a regular monitor for your laptop, once in awhile the laptop would just shut down. I did however found what was causing it. It was because of the Softdex software for port replicators that was needed to make the docking station work. Apparently, DELL does not have the W2K version of Softdex. To date, as far as I know, they only have the NT version. So any of you using the DELL CPxH series laptop, this is a problem that I have found out. Thanks for all your help.
