w2k load hang after install scanjet update

Problem: Installed scanjet pro 3.0/ scanner 5370c. The program worked but would not start scanner. HP's fix down load sj785en.exe fix.

Ok. the computer needed to reboot. Now it hangs @ windows loading screen. 3/4 load - hangs....

I have w2k pro with service pack2. western digital 40gig ata 100.

I've tried the ERD disk. No change.

Any ideas would be helpfull. I really do not want to reinstall w2k.
