I recently tried to install W2K on a desktop but I am getting the blue screen with the following error: 0x000000A5 The ACPI BIOS in this system is not fully compliant with the ACPI specification. I've used a Win98 boot disk to format the drive yet everytime I attempt to install W2K I get this error. Any suggestions out there?

Can you not flash the BIOS?

Is the Blue Screen occuring during the install or after Win2K is installed?

search for -

STOP 0x000000A5" When Installing Windows 2000

at microsoft.com. It should help.

This error is occuring during the install process. I don't know anything about not flashing the BIOS, sorry. But if you explain I'll give it a try. Thanks for the help.

Howdy:

Go into BIOS and disable "Advanced Power Management".. Save the change.. Now try your install !!

The motherboard BIOS can usually be updated by "flashing" it. To do this, you must download the latest BIOS from the manufacturers website and run a little utility usually included with the BIOS update package.

You MUST boot your computer into Command Prompt Safe Mode and run the utility from a command line in DOS.

WARNING: Flashing a BIOS can ruin your motherboard! It is imperative that you be sure you are flashing with the correct BIOS.

The hardest part about flashing is being sure you are using the right BIOS update. If you don't know, don't do it.

Thanks for the help I was able to disable the BIOS APM and install W2K successfully.

Not a problem.. and I bet you did all that without having to flash the BIOS either !!

Never thought to just disable it. But, I'm the kinda person that likes to update everything.
