I have a W2K SP4 server with a minor, but annoying issue. This machine used to be a DC, but was dcpromoed down to member server 2 years ago. There haven't been any issues with this until now. I was attempting to install some software and the install wasn't working properly. It turns out that when the MSI installer queried the machine for MsiNTProductType, the value 500-2 was being returned which is a W2K DC. It should be a 500-3 for member server. Does anyone know where this information is stored and how to change it in-place? Due to a vendor managed line of business application on this machine, I cannot wipe and rebuild.

I believe it will be reset if you disjoin the domain and rejoin the domain. Be sure to delete the machine account in between the disjoin and rejoin.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark. I'll give this a shot at the next opportunity.
