We have a new PC running Windows 2000 that is to be used exclusively (for now) as a fileserver on a workgroup. This workgroup has about 20 PC's on it, with W95, W98, WXPP machines on it. (The old file server was a W95). I have setup all the users, and over half of them can use the files fine. Some of the others get only a prompt (when clicking on the new server under the workgroup in network neighborhood) asking for a machine level password. This is exactly what happens if there is no user account setup on the client PC, but I've triple checked the user on both machines. This is happenning on 2 W95 PC's.
The remaining non-sharing ones get a popup saying something like "Access not available - try again later" ... well now it worked !?? It's after hours now - is there a maximum number of users that can access a share on W2k? If so, how can it be increased?
