Hi,

Can anyone suggest what w2k regsitry edits will force a windows 2000 prof ws to "remember" where the installation files are located so I dont have to browse to the files each time I add/remove something.

I found an article on NT4 suggesting that I change the values for

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]

"SourcePath"="C:\\win2k.cab\\i386"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]

"SourcePath"="C:\\win2k.cab\\i386"

Although the new values get entered into the registry ok, W2k still looks for the w2k cd-rom on d: even though a cd was never used for the install or anything else in the first place.

Is tehre soemthing else that need sto be config'd in the registry?

Thanks in advance

I would try placing i386 folder from CD on C:\ and then changing the registry entries to
"c:\i386"

For new installs, you can (after you fdisk the computer) create a folder on the drive, or any one of the partitions that you want, and name the folder i386. Then copy all of the files from the i386 folder that is on the cd to that new i386 folder. Then run the install program from that folder on the hard drive. From then on, every time windows needs to get to the install files it will automatically get to the files from the local i386 folder.

That is the way I do it too.
fdisk
format FAT or FAT32
c:\md i386
d:\i386 copy *.* c:\i386
c:\i386 winnt.exe

Then convert disk to NTFS during the installation if you want.
I've always had good success with this and the files are there if you need them later.
