Unusual Windows 2000 Professional/CompactFlash Memory Card Reader Problem
System: Home Built Computer, AMD 1800 CPU, 1.5GB Memory, 40 GB and 13 GB Hard Drives, DVD-CDROM, CD-RW, HP 6L parallel laser printer, Epson Stylus Photo 925 USB printer, HP 5730 parallel scanner, PrimeFilm 1800 USB film scanner, MIcrosoft Trackball Explorer USB mouse, Iomega USB Zip 250, Logitech USB webcam. All USB equipment is 1.1. Four USB ports on motherboard, 2 USB ports on motherboard extension (screws into PCI slot without card), 1 Four Port USB powered hub, I 4 port non=powered hub, SanDisk Dual CompactFlash Reader, Kingston Technologies 256MB CompactFlash Card.
Probelm: Unable to transfer pictures from my hard disk to the CompactFlash memory card. The card reader is recognized by the computer as drives H: and I: (Device Manager, Disk Management) as well as various system analysis programs. Neither copy and paste, cut and paste, or send to is able to transfer any file. When I attempt to drag and drop and move the cursor over the H: or I: icon ther cursor
changes to a circle with a left to right internal downward diagonal such as seen in
the ubiquitous "No Parking" or "No Smoking" signs. HOWEVER, I can copy files to
the CompactFlash card when using the Command Prompt feature of Windows 2000 Professional. ALSO, I am able to copy files from the CompactFlash back to the Hard Drive while in Windows 2000.
I connected the card reader to a computer running Windows Me and all the transfer modes worked! I believe there is some internal setting in Windows 2000, possibly a registry, security, policy or services setting that is preventing the Card Reader from functioning properly but I am unable to find any setting to correct the
problem.
Can anyone help me resolve this?
Thanks
