Can you run Windows 2000 server with static IP addresses? Do you have to use DHCP?

Yes by all means you can run W2K server with a static IP or a DHCP for that matter. In case of servers you should always use a static due mainly because if the server gets a new IP all the time, computers logging on to the server or resources such as printers will need to relook for the server since the IP changes. There are ways around it using scopes etc. But I would stay static on all servers. my opinion.

wlpsyp is on the money. ALWAYS use statics for servers, but DHCP can be used. In fact, based on the number ip's needed, you may not need dhcp at all. If you've got a class c subnet, and need less than 254 ip's, keep them static, saves the trouble of managing dhcp servers. If you need larger, follow wlpsyp's idea, and use dhcp except for servers.
