What I know about networking fits in a thimble! I upgraded one machine to W2K and am trying to use the internet sharing feature to allow a Win 95 connect to the internet.

I have a DSL line coming into the W2K machine, internet sharing is checked for the LAN connection, I configured IE on both machines as outlined on the Microsoft site. However, the Win95 machine cannot find the W2K machine.

What am I missing?? Any geniuses out there??

Thanks,
DBAChick

I do not recall that Win95 was able to use internet sharing. Did you look at Microsofts website for details? Try upgrading the Win95 machine to 2000 or 98 as well. If Win95 can use ICS please, someone let us know.

How do you have the two machines networked? have you set the addresses etc? can the 2K machine see the 95 machine?
A good site for home networking:

You need to have the Dial-up adapter set to whatever IP settings your ISP requires (usually DHCP), and your internal NIC IP settings have to be within a certain range (I forget which, but I'll look it up if necessary).

You need to bind the ICS to both the NIC and Dial-up adapter (should be done automatically when you install the service), then point the W9x box at the W2k server.

The w9x box will need an IP address in the same range as the W2k machine.

I hope this helps - this is fairly new to me as well, but works on my home network!
