Hey Everyone,

I'm settting up my first 2008 domain and have a very quick questions, the domain is very small, just two servers, First will be a 2008 DC for file and printer and the second will be for Exchange 2007.

I noticed that the 2008 Engine now uses Server Roles to add features.

My DC will also be a file server, nothing complicated, just a few shares then some mapped drives for around 25 users.

Doing some looking around most people suggust add the server "File Services" role. but u also see if i was to do this additional features like DFS get installed.

I'll never use this feature.

Can someone please let me know if its best practice to use the Role Version of "FileServices" or just enable file Sharing on a direcory?

What's everyone else do for simple networks?

Thanks

Use the role. It helps the server to adjust memory accordingly to allow a better user experience.

With only 25 users, why are you not going to SBS 2008? You would gain remote access functionality.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks for thank.

We never went for SBS because we will go over the 75 user restriction within the next year.

You might then want to look at EBS, which is the medium IT equivalent of SBS.

I hope you find this post helpful.
