Windows 7:
All Word documents open as the navigation pane only. To view my document I need to expand and then close the pane. I don't use it. I don't want it. All I want to do is see the document sent me or write my own.
(Sounds of chunks of hair being ripped out)
All research through MS points to how wonderful it is and how to maximize your productivity by using it, but I find nothing about how to turn it off by default.
To aggravate the annoyance, W7 does not maintain document size when the document is closed. (There is a hot fix for this, which I was going to try before reading the admonition of back up everything.)
I have found instructions for creating a macro to close it after the document is opened, but isn't that a bit much? There must be a setting somewhere to turn the T^&&*$#!! off?
One more piece of positive support for "If it ain't broke don't fix it," at least without providing a suitable escape hatch. (Such as in the "options' menu, for instance. Maybe???)
