Got a question on VTP pruning. I setup a Catalyst 6500 as VTP server, and some 3500 as vtp client. I enable vtp pruning in cat 6500 by: set vtp pruning enable.

Show vtp domain:

Last Updater V2 Mode Pruning PruneEligible on Vlans
--------------- -------- -------- -------------------------
10.1.x.x disabled enabled 2-1000

But when I did show trunk, the output in “Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not pruned” did not shows the pruning result I want?

Port Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not pruned
-------- ----------------------------------------------------------
3/1 1
4/44 1,5-6
6/2 1,101
6/4 1,3,201
6/6 1-6,201
6/7 1,4,101
6/8 1-2
15/1 1-6,101,201
16/1

For example I only want vlan 1 and 201 in 6/6, however it still forwarding 1-6, and 201. Do I miss any configuration on VTP server / client? Also the switch connect to 6/6 only had vlan 201, and vlan 1 in the configuration.

Thanks,

sh

Manually clear the trunk by using the clear trunk mod/port
vlan# . Those vlans are still being allowed down the trunk even though they aren't used .

PS The clear trunk would be done on the Server side forgot to specify that .

Thanks for promptly reply. I have another question regards to VPT trunk. We have two trunks from Cat 6500 to Cat 3500.

Cat6500 Cat3500
------- --------------
3/1 (Fast Ethernet) <----> 0/48 (Fast Ethernet)
6/4 (1G fiber) <----> 0/1 (1 G fiber)

Will this going to create switching loop between these two switches? Will backup trunk works if no any portpri or portvlanpri in the switch configuration?

Thanks again,

SH
