I have a bunch of 3548s each connected to a 4003 via dot1q trunk. VTP pruning is OFF. The 3548s are vt clients while the 4003 is the server. The scenario is that at the 4003, i had prune vlan 200 at trunk interface 3/1 which is connected to switch 3548-2. Does this mean that vlan 200 will no longer be active in switch 3548-2? A "show vlan" in the 3548-2 still shows vlan 200 as active. How can i remove vlan 200 in the 3548-2?

clear trunk <mod/port> vlan 200 on the switch in question.

you mean clear it on the 3548 or the 4003? The 3548 is running IOS. And being a VTP client, i cant modify any of the vlan settings.

Ah, good one. You can clear it on the 4003 and it will remove that vlan on that trunk. Which in turn will remove it for the 3500. Sorry I was not clear.

Hi IPKONFIG, if vtp pruning is not turned on, will the vtp server still respond to manual vtp pruning? It seems that even though i can manually remove the vlan from the trunk at the vtp server using the "clear trunk <mod/port> <vlan>", at the client side, the vlan in question is still active. Is there any way to remove the vlan from the 3500 without turning on VTP pruning at the server side?

The answer to your first question is yes. If the vlan in question is still active on the client side, then try the following command on the 3500:

switchport trunk allowed vlan remove (word ie:vlan200)

If you question mark after the switchport trunk allowed vlan you'll get the following output, and you can work from there. Questions, please let me know.

WORD VLAN IDs of the allowed VLANs when this port is in trunking mode
add add VLANs to the current list
all all VLANs
except all VLANs except the following
remove remove VLANs from the current list
