I have a 1030 with 28 VT's and 4 lines. There is one extension located in a garage about 600-700 feet away from the equipment which was just recently installed. Almost every call and intercom call gets disconnected. I changed phones, checked all wiring and connections and tried swapping ports. Nothing seems to keep this extension working. Do I need to install, (will the system accept), a second power supply? I thought I had heard that a voice terminal could be located up to 1000 feet away, is that true? Help, the garage guys are driving me crazy!

Thanks, Bill

(I know we need to upgrade, soon I hope.)

Oh, b ythe way, the extension was just recently installed not the phone system.

Have you tried swapping stations to determine if it is the phone, port or distance? I know you can use an IROB for MLX phones that are in range out of building, but not sure if it will work here.

they made irobs for atl sets. I would definately try to find one.

Good luck,

Austin

Assuming the phone and the circuit board check out, consider adding a 48v power supply at the telephone end. It's possible that with under-sized wiring, at 600 feet, you may not have enough power to run the phone properly.

Thanks guys, I thought the IROB was just for protection, does it supply power? How would I go about adding a power supply to the phone?... the phone is a BIS-22.

thanks

Billy,

To power a BIS-22 or any other VT for that matter, get yourself a 1151A1 power supply. There's 2 ports on it. 1 port goes to the wall jack (PBX) and the other to the VT. There was also another wall-wart type power supply, but that required a 400B adapter.

Be careful in providing power to an ATL telephone (BIS-22) vs an MLX phone. The ATL phones are powered by pair 3 (white/green), and the MLX phones are powered by pair 4 (white/brown).

AT&T/Lucent made the Voice Terminal Power Supply Unit for wiring runs of >1000 feet (and other heavy power use situations. That part number was Comcode - 104-214-192 or Apparatus code D181282.

The KS-22911 L1 Power supply was also qualified for use with ATL phones.

The IROB is purely protection, not power supplementation.
