Well, I purchased and installed the KS22911 power supply and it did NOT work. The transformer overheated and the thermal overload kept tripping inside of it. So I guess the power supply will not work with the 1030 or the ALT phones, I guess??? I did check the wiring with an Ideal Link Master
Cable Tester, and it is all is okay. Should I try to increase the wire gauge for this run? Or have my options run out? Thanks for all the help guys!

You can confirm that the KS-22911 L1 power supply is qualified by checking the Merlin Plus R2 Installation manual. (Merlin Plus used only the ATL phones.) Correct installation uses the Z400F adapter. Perhaps your installation didn't hook up the power correctly. Check the manuals to confirm which pair provides power to the telephone.

The fact that the supply overheats and cycles its thermal cutout indicates a likely direct short in the wiring somewhere.

Increasing the wiring gauge is an alternative; if you have a spare pair, you can join two pairs together to double the effective current-carrying capacity (cut the voltage drop in half) but this requires caution to do; make sure you are "bulking up" the correct power pair. According to the Merlin Plus manual, ATL phones use the 3rd pair (white/gn + Green/wt) for power, showing up on pins 3+6 on the modular jack. (Pair 1 is analog voice, Pair 2 is the control signal, Pair 3 is power, and pair 4 is the second voice channel.)

Looking at the 1030/3070 manual, some combinations of phones in your system may require additional power; there is an auxiliary power supply that can go into the 1030 control unit.

Good luck!
