Hi,

Can you advise where the settings for volume shadow copies is in Windows 7 and how I alter the schedule for the snapshots.

I can find it no problem on our Win 2008 R2 servers, but cannot find it on a client machine which I need to ensure is getting multiple snapshots a day due to the nature of the user.

I found this MS thread :
But it just seems to be the usual MS bashing and complaining and I can't find an answer to what I need.

I've ensured the VSS service is enabled and set to automatic, but I can't find where you set when the snapshots and how many should be taken?

Thanks,

On server versions there's a command-line tool named vssadmin which you can use to create shadow copies, but the Windows 7 version doesn't have this functionality. However the Windows 7 SDK includes a tool named VShadow which can create a shadow set - see this Microsoft article for instructions.

If you set up a scheduled task for that you can make snapshots as desired.

I wasn't aware that the non-server versions of Windows had a scheduled shadow copy capability - not without some manual scripting, additional utilities and some cunning use of the task scheduler.

@Nelviticus On servers there is a GUI

I guess I'll need to spend time looking into this SDK, if and when I get a chance!

EDIT: Thanks Mike, glad to know I'm not going senile (well not just yet), damn you MS, you invent good stuff, then break it, it drives me nuts!
