We do not yet have Office 2003, and so we can check in
Access components as text files.

So I have been checking in/out whole databases instead.

About a week ago, and ever since, checking in a DB with
"keep checked out" enabled takes hours. (Formarly took
less than five minutes worst case. Eventually completes,
but it's weird.

During the time it is showing an hourglass, some
applications have trouble launching, but interestingly,
the non-local disk that holds both the VSS database and
the MDB being processed is no slower than normal.

How big is the MDB file? I once had this years ago after I had been doing lots of deletes and inserts in the database. It turned out the database had expanded to nearly 1Gb. This is caused because access never actually deletes anything it just marks the record as deleted instead. You may need to "Compact" the database to get rid of such records.

I always have databases compact on close.
The one that I killed this morning (after
it failed to complete all night) is pretty
big, but it has done this on smaller ones.
