VSS batching

Not sure if this is where I should post, move if I'm wrong

For VSS, I'm currently writing some program that "gets" the files currently in progress to update, but I do not know how to link to the online VSS database. The console commands seem to only work for a local database, and that is what I'm writing the program for right now, in hopes that there is a way to direct it to the online database when i'm done programming. There is no "connect" command parameter for ss.exe, the application that apparently can only use console commands. So how would I go about setting up my batch file to retrieve from the online VSS database?
