while using VSIFAX i am logged in as root but when i send anything it is saying it has come from the user taras ??

where would i be looking for this kind of setting... also when trying to print as anyone else its not working at all?

all help appriciated.

Are you saying that the print function for UNIX only works for "root"? I'm not sure I understand if that issue is related to VSIFAX.

I have no knowledge of how VSIFAX would display an incorrect name for the submitter. Is "taras" a standard user?

Hi again motoside.

the way our software faxes is you send it to a printer but the printer config in our software actually passes it to VSIFAX (sorry it was not clear in original post)

and taras is just a standard user both in unix and in VSIFAX...

So, check the printer's interface script.

Hope This Helps, PH.

PHV.. I have it seems ok, and worked from root but in VSIFAX says it come from 'taras' (it says this even when faxing streight from UNIX) but when anyone else uses it, it doesnt seem to work...

there are 50 user licenses with VSIFAX and the users are added into the acceptance list to fax in VSIFAX.

As far as I understand it, you don't need to specify the USERS for VSIFAX. VSIFAX has user maintenance as part of it's Client/Server model where you can fax from PC-based apps. For your standard UNIX-based jobs, there should be no need to manage individual users.

But, since you have a 50-user license, are your faxes originating at the Client workstation?

As PHV said, check the printer I/F script. Your earlier post listed a command for initiating the fax job. Was that command part of the I/F script? As a non-root user, just issue an 'lp' command to that pseudo printer and see if you get an error. Check permissions on the I/F script and related spooler files.

Also check any log or temporary files.....

if you first tried it as the root user they may have been initialized with root only write privledges and when it can't write to these files for a normal user it could just die silently.
