Awhile back McAfee had a bulletin that said why VSE 7.1 was the greatest thing since cheese. If fixed some problems from 7.0. I can no-longer find that document anywhere. Any of you folks know what 7.0 problems were fixed by 7.1??
- Check Point(TM) VPN-1/Firewall-1® SCV
integration. The VirusScan Enterprise
software has been updated to integrate with
Check Point VPN-1/Firewall-1 SCV. When
installed and enabled, the Check Point
product can be configured to prevent clients
without up-to-date anti-virus protection
from accessing the corporate network through
the VPN.
- McAfee Installation Designer(TM) and McAfee
Desktop Firewall(TM) integration. Use McAfee
Installation Designer to configure McAfee
Desktop Firewall with VirusScan Enterprise
7.1.0. This allows you to configure and
deploy both products together and reduce
restarts to a maximum of one.
- Smaller installation package. The VirusScan
Enterprise installation package has been
optimized using Netopsystems’ Fast
Electronic Application Distribution (FEAD®
Optimizer®) technology. This reduces network
bandwidth required in deployments. You can
use McAfee Installation Designer 7.1 to
recompose the installation package, then
optimize it again after changes have been
made. When executing SETUP.EXE from the
command line, you can apply special commands
and switches to recompose the installation
files.
See the VirusScan Enterprise Installation
Guide, for more information about
configuring the Netopsystems’ FEAD
Optimizer.
- Engine and DAT files are contained in the
Microsoft Installer (.MSI) file. The engine
and DAT files have been added to the .MSI
file for VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0. This
allows customers to deploy the product using
a single .MSI file.
- Visibility of ePolicy Orchestrator tasks. If
you are using ePolicy Orchestrator 3.0 or
later to manage VirusScan Enterprise, you
can view ePolicy Orchestrator tasks for
on-demand scan, update, and mirror in the
VirusScan Console. This allows end-users to
see all tasks being run on their computers
and also allows administrators and help desk
operators to more easily debug ePolicy
Orchestrator tasks over the phone.

CHANGED FEATURES
- Detecting potentially unwanted or joke
programs. The VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
software changes how potentially unwanted
programs or joke programs are treated when
detected. When VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
detects a potentially unwanted or joke
program, no action is taken. Detections are
logged in the log file. This gives you the
opportunity to decide whether you want to
take action on the potentially unwanted or
joke program, and if so take the appropriate
action.
This is a change from the VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0.0 software where potentially
unwanted programs or joke programs could not
be cleaned, but they could be automatically
moved or deleted depending on the primary
and secondary actions you selected on the
Actions properties.
RESOLVED ISSUES
The following list describes issues from the
previous release of this software product that
have been resolved with this current release.
1. ISSUE:
Resumable scanning does not work for
on-demand scan tasks created and deployed
using ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 or ePolicy
Orchestrator 3.0. This occurs if the
on-demand scan created in ePolicy
Orchestrator ends before the scan completes
(due to a time-out, system shut-down, etc).
When the on-demand scan task starts again,
it begins scanning again at the beginning,
rather than resume from the last file
scanned.
RESOLUTION:
Issue resolved. Resumable scanning works
correctly for on-demand scan tasks that are
created and deployed using ePolicy
Orchestrator.
2. ISSUE:
When a user with user rights (as opposed to
an administrator with administrator rights)
rolls back DAT files, the following error
occurs:
"Failed to save the version of the DATs
that have just been rolled back"
This means that VirusScan Enterprise failed
to create the correct registry key
identifying that the rollback has occurred.
Because of this, performing an update can
allow the rolled-back DATs to be reapplied.
This can cause problems if the rolled-back
DAT versions were indeed corrupted (usually
the reason for performing a DAT rollback).
Normally, VirusScan Enterprise does not
allow updating of DAT versions that have
been rolled back.
NOTE:
This problem only occurs when a
non-administrator performs the DAT rollback.
When administrators do it, the rolled-back
DAT versions cannot be applied through
updating.
RESOLUTION:
Issue resolved. Rolled-back DATs cannot be
reapplied.

KNOWN ISSUES
ePOLICY ORCHESTRATOR(TM) COMPATABILITY
1. If you are planning to use ePolicy
Orchestrator to manage VirusScan Enterprise
7.1.0, you must use either:
- ePolicy Orchestrator version 2.5.x.
- ePolicy Orchestrator version 3.0 with
Service Pack 1.
2. If you use ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of VirusScan 4.5.1 and
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0, ePolicy
Orchestrator installs both products on the
client computer. Normally in this situation,
ePolicy Orchestrator should only install the
more recent version, VirusScan Enterprise
7.0.0 or 7.1.0.
3. When using ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of NetShield 4.5 for
Windows NT on a client system where
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0 is
already installed, ePolicy Orchestrator
installs NetShield. Normally in this
situation, ePolicy Orchestrator should
recognize that a newer version, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0, already exists on
the client system and not install the older
version, NetShield 4.5.
4. When you are adding the McAfee AutoUpdate
7.0 policy to the software repository in
ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 and you are
prompted to enable software deployment,
select "No."
If you select "Yes" the following errors may
appear:
- "Error downloading policy translation
file for VIRUSSCAN7000. Do you want to
continue?"
- "Error downloading HTTP:\\...\POLICY.TPL.
Do you want to continue?"
Note that if you do select "Yes" and see
these errors, they are harmless and can be
ignored. After clicking "Yes" to both, you
should see a confirmation message that the
policy was added successfully.
5. Tasks created from ePolicy Orchestrator
2.5.1 do not display in the VirusScan
Enterprise Console even though the "enable
task visibility" option was selected in the
ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 Network
Associates Program (NAP) file. This feature
is not available when using ePolicy
Orchestrator 2.5.x to create tasks.
NOTE:
This feature is available when using ePolicy
Orchestrator 3.0 or later to create tasks.
