Hello,

Does anyone have any programming tips for a VSAM to DB2 conversion?
I understand there is a SQL utility tool that is very helpful in migrating data to DB2.

Any programming tips will be much appreciated.

Thank you

Use the IBM-supplied sample program DSNTIAUL to create load cards. This is an unload program. Although there will not be any data, the program will still create the load cards.

If there isn't a one-to-one correspondence between VSAM files and tables (and there shouldn't be if the model is normalized), the fields on the VSAM file will have to be distrbuted into different flat files. Use programs, Syncsort, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, whatever makes sense.

Sort the data into cluster order before loading for a faster load.

Load the data into the tables using DSNUTILB utility. (Executed natively or via DSNUPROC.
