Please explain #206, options 1 and 3, for partner vs 5.0.

What are the differences between the call answer and auto attendant services, and how are they selected?

Why can I not use Selector Codes 1 and 2 for phantom extensions (which ones should I use for small configuration) - imitating departmental voice mail boxes? 2 different techs have told me it cannot be done, but I cannot believe that.

What are the steps that I should follow to program a selector code option?

thx

#206 - 1 send the call to the Auto Attendant
3 sends the call to the line owner which you have to assign inside of the VS mail

PC Card mail does not have line owners, so here you use #206-2(not assigned) and instead use #208 - Call Cover to send a line to a mailbox owner

Call Answer means that one specific mailbox answers the line and takes a message, just like an answering machine. The caller is not given a choice to transfer to another extension, just to leave a message after the beep. Auto Attendant service answers, tells the caller their options, allows then to dial an extension or press a selector code, to transfer to an extension that will then answer with another greeting and allow the caller to leave a message.

You certainly can use selector codes 1 and 2, however, you will not be able to input extension numbers from 10 to 29, since they also start with 1 or 2. Typically, I use selector codes starting from 9 and work down from there.

Setting up selector codes depends on which voice mail you are using. On VS mail, log in and go to Auto Attendants (3), then Day Menu (1), Modify (6), then enter the selector code (1 to 9), listen to its current setting, conform that you want to change it (9), listen to the list of options, pick your option, and if necessary enter the extension number that you want the selector code to transfer to. Continue with the next selector code that you want to change, or press *# when finished with selector codes. Now either press # if you want to keep the current greeting, or press 1 to record a new greeting.

On PC Card Mail, log in, press 6 for selector codes, listen to the current setting, enter an extension number if you want the selector code to transfer to an extension, or *# if the current setting is correct.

thx.

What about Selector Codes for pc card vm? same principle?

kinda' dumb not to be able to use both sc 1/2 as well as being able to dial *10-29. seems like once ur inside of the vm, the sc would be a separate entity, since ur really not dialing an extension.

I have a client that has a pc card vm r3. she wants to be able to have the aa answer the calls after x number of rings, play a 'dial x for this, dial x for that' message.

what is the most efficient way that I can set her up? we tried this b4, using sc 1/2 and had to abandon the project, and basically use a call answer svc.

thx, again

Hi wp7705,
The voicemail will let you direct dial an extension. So if you dialed 15 .... Sorry, selector code "1" grabbed the 1 and the 5 went into nothing, you just went where selector code "1" is programmed to send you. That's why you shouldn't use selector codes within your extension range. Make sense now?
It sounds like you are more familiar with Norstar stuff.

I answered your last question in your other post.
