A colleague of mine has asked me to set up his laptop so that he can connect to our server when he is at home & use our internet connection, is this possible and if so how is it done?

Our router is VPN Capable & the server is RRAS & has a static ip!

Do you need a hardware spec for the laptop or server?

I have configured both, I'm pretty confident the RRAS is configured correctly although I'm not too sure about the router.

What would be the next step to take presuming that the router is configured properly

Assuming router and RRAS are working properly then the next step is to check the desired user has dial in permission in Active Directory. Check the Dial In tab within their properties.

Once you have done that you need to create the VPN on the client.

This method varies between XP and Vista, but basically you nee to create a new network connection, choose VPN, enter your public static IP and then enter your username and password.

You can't test this whilst you are on the LAN, test it from home, over 3G or over dial up.

Do I simply need to select the 'allow access' button & that's it?

I'll set up the VPN on the client then & give it a try, thanks for your help

I'm tryin to set up the VPN on the client which is running windows Vista but when I try to set it up to dial directly it doesn't show me anywhere to enter the static IP address...
