I have setup a windows 2000 server to allow VPN connections to our network domain.

From inside the LAN I can connect directly to the VPN server and it creates a VPN connection no problem.

When I setup a connection at home, it always stalls at "verifying username and password" and fails VPN connection.

I always figured it was our work router/firewall giving me problems until today.

On a new laptop I added it to our domain and I work fine on our LAN. I then disconnected it from the LAN and used the Verizon wireless internet connection - not to be confused with simple wireless LAN connection - its an actual different ISP it connects into.

I then added the VPN connection and it connected to my VPN no problem!!

So I am curious why I cannot setup other external computers to connect to my LAN? Is there some IP configuration, domain controller config or something I am missing on my client computers (XP and 2000)

Update:

When attempting to connect my client VPN to server IP it gives me error 721 remote computer does not respond.

If I do a netstat on VPN server I do see the IP address of the connecting VPN client on port 1723!!!

Is there some sort of windows logon problem I may be seeing?

Client IP address?
Client workgroup not equal to server domain?
DNS problems?

Arghghgh
