I have a small office with one server that I would like to gain access to while at another location. The office has a cable connection with a dynamic ip address and the other end has a dsl connection with a dynamic ip address.

Is it at all possible to make a connection between the two without paying for a static address, or am I just dreaming?

btw the routers at each end are consumer level routers with VPN pass through capability (linksys and belkin).

Thanks...

Try using something like DNS2Go.

I would advise you use static on at least one side, makes things alot easier.

I'll try DNS2Go first and if it gives me too many fits then I'll give in and go with a static address where the server is located.

Thanks for the tip.

Most routers if you have one location that has a static ip address you can put in 0.0.0.0 in the others routers config for the remote gateway and if the router supports it, it will work.
.

Otherwise, you could try something like Real VNC without having to get any static ip addresses. The only kink in it is you cannot do file transfers (which can be circumvented by an ftp) and you would have to know the destination ip address everytime you wanted to connect. Or PC Anywhere. Which works nicely.
