VPN w/ Linksys WRT54G

I have had a VPN through a router before, but for some reason it's not working with my Linksys. I am just trying to set up a VPN so I can access my files on my home computer from anywhere I take my laptop. I have tried everything I can think of and it is not working. Any suggestions to try?

I have the port forwarding set up on the router, and I have the incoming connection set to automatic. Not sure what other information to give you. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

. start by being absolutely current on the firmware for the router
. open at the router all the VPN related pass-throughs

I figured out it was my norton internet security firewall, but the ports are open on the firewall and it still wont let me through unless I disable the NIS firewall.... wierd...
