I have an issue with my VPN phone 4621 at a remote location. they have a decent internet line, 10mbps, but it seems to not work all the time, I changed the codec to G.729, but havnt messed with the other settings, any recommendation? I have a cisco ASA 5505 that its connected to, with all the fixups off...on both ends. It seems like it wants to work, but only sometimes.

Do they have a static IP at remote side? Is it a voice quality issue or a connection issue altogether?

it is static on the inside of our network, and its not really a voice quality issue once i get connected, it just doesnt want to dial sometime, and so on....its freezing and rebooting, and driving me crazy!

As far as i know only the Cisco VPN 300 Series and the Cisco PIX 500 are supported. Also you'll need a lisence.
Maybe others here managed to get it working on a ASA 5505.

Greetzzz...Bas

What license do it need?
Ive never heard that?

But im already inside the network, its class A and im on the inside with my ASA, I can see the IPO just fine. I shouldnt need this lic.

Then you do not need a vpn phone

A vpn remote phone is used when you do not want or have a vpn router at the phone side
The phone has a build in vpn client

If you are local you can not use vpn

I dont have the question about the phone, sigh, i was simply asking if there is a certain codec that works better with a low bandwidth...or if there is any reason my 4621 IP phonesometimes works but sometimes doesnt. I can make calls most times, just once in a while it wiggs out.

G729 is better
G711 uses more bandwidth

It sounds like a timeout issue to be honest
Set the reregister timeout as high as possible

So you have 2 ASA's 5505 up and running with a VPN?!

You don't need to load the VPN files into the 4621SW, just the normal bin files like the other Phones on the IPOffice side.

Then it must be a port issue, did you try to reset the ASA's after setting up the VPN?

Yeah, like i said the tunnel is fine, my computer sees everything on it too. I guess ill just play with the codecs, it will grab all the bin files and everything, just wondering which codec you prefer. Im using ULAW now since 729 was giving me troubles. We shall see..

thanks Guys

How do you reset the reregister timeout? What is this>? hehe ive never even heard of that....of course im kind of new still

Also does defining an IP address under ext help? Will this improve my issue? I just switched to G711 and call quality is now GREAT. But i also put the static IP of my phone in, so im not sure which one is doing the trick.
It could also be that its 12:30 in the morning and no one is beating up our network :p

If it's on automatic it will uses codec G729, wich is a lower bandwith than G711. Making it static is better.
