Hi all

Im trying to set up a VPN at my work site. Ive got two options as far as I can gather.

Use our FreeBSD server to do the VPN, but I'd have to recompile the kernal. Or if I can forward the VPN ports through to our Windows 2003 server and set up the VPN on that.

Unfortunately, I dont have alot of experience with setting up VPN's so I guess my question is, is there any built in functionality in Windows 2003 or do I need to need to find some third party software?

Also, does anybody happen to what ports to forward for VPN?

There is built in VPN in windows. You need to use routing and remote access, If it is not installed you can install it through add/remove programs windows components.
When you open routing and remote access from admin tools you right click the server and select configure routing and remote access. The wizard is pretty straight forward.

If you use PPTP then the port number to forward is 1723, you also need to esnure that the gre protocol is allowed through the firewall. Search on google for more info on gre (Generic Routing Encapsulation).
