We are trying to setup W2K VPN for remote clients. We have successfully tested it inside the network but, the router is blocking communications when we test it outside of the network. If we open all ports on the router we can successfully login. We don't want to do that.

Q. Is there a list of ports Windows needs open in order to login and run a VPN connection?

PS. We already have ports 1723 & 47 open.

Opened up port 1723 in BOTH directions? Not sure if that will fix it, but it would be my first port of call.

Perhaps install a copy of COMMVIEW on a client machine. This program shows all network activity on the machine its installed on, and see what ports are used to establish a vpn connection.

That would shed a lot of light on the subject. Tis would be my course of action
