VPN through a Router

I'm sure there is a more appropriate forum for my question - but I can't find it!

I have a small workgroup - connected via a DLink router.
I have a work laptop, running Windows 7 Business that I use VPN to connect to the office.
My router wants to block this access.
How can I open up a path that allows my laptop to connect to the VPN via the router?

first of all, which DLink router are we talking about?

that way one of us could read up on it, and tell you where and which settings to take in the webpage of said router...

I think I have it resolved...
I went in to advanced settings - virtual server I think?? and set up PPTP and IpSec as 'applications' - assign the laptop/IP address, and it seems to work.
