I have a Win2K laptop, linksys router, motorola cybersurfer cable modem using Nortel's Contivity VPN client. A couple months ago, it was fast and steady. It got worse and now, I can't connect to the host at all. The message is to the effect "Remote host not found". There's no error number. How do I tell if the provider is blocking ports? Should I be able to ping the IP address of the host? Accessing the internet is no problem, and is very fast, I just can't see the VPN host any more. I bypassed the router and got the same results. I suspect my cable provider is up to something (Comcast), but I'm a programmer and this network stuff is complicated.
