Hi there,
After finally getting my laptop to connect to my workplace on Windows 7 I am unable to ping anything on the remote network or for that matter access the internet while the VPN connection is active. Internet service is fully restored once the connection is stopped.
Obviously not being able to ping anything on the network means that I cannot RDP to my work PC either.
Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on?
I have no problems with my home PC (Windows XP) connecting to the network at work.

As I am not too familiar with 7 but with VPN Tunneling what are you using for a VPN client? If it is Windows built in and all the settings are the same then check your firewall. Also make sure your work didn't add any exception to their network for your XP box.
