I run a windows network but I have a client that uses macs. He has a VPN client that connects to our firewall. The connection seems fine. He can ping all the network computer but there is one computer he can't access or ping. Its not a windows domain member. It is in a workgroup by itself. It is the one computer that he needs to access. Do any of you Mac people have any idea why?

Thanks,

Shannan

You fail to mention one thing - is the computer's name resolving to an IP address?

That's the first thing that comes to mind - the Mac doesn't know the IP address of the target machine.

I gave him the i.p. address of the target machine. He can ping all other i.p.s that are part of the domain, but this one target machine that is in the workgroup he can't ping.

If the target has the correct ip address and netmask for the rest of the org, is it an issue on the box with a firewall that denies ping?

Well, the target computer is running XP and the firewall is turned off. We run a Mcafee firewall. I have a VPN client on my Windows laptop. I can ping all computers, including the workgroup computer from home. He can ping all but the one target computer which is in the workgroup by itself.
