Hi all,

Here is my understanding of the following VPN, can someone please advise me if my thinking is right or wrong please!!

PPTP - secure as you have to authenticate using a username and password. PPTP offers 128-bit encryption which is tough to hack in to.

L2TP with Shared Key - this is weak as you only use a pre shared key which is easily 'sniffed' out.

L2TP with Certificates - strongest form of authentication as you authenticate the machine using a certificate and then authenticate the user with a username and password

So in summary you would want to avoid using a pre shared key VPN and it would be best to use certificates. PPTP is more than sufficent for remote users and site to site VPNs.

I look forward to your thoughts and help!

Thanks.
