I'm sorry to be posting such a elementary question....hopefully someone can point me to the proper faq or website.

I have a small home network. DI-704P router, cable internet connection, 3-4 machines on the network at any one time.
I have WinXP pro...so, how do I set up a vpn that I can access my home network from work via the internet?

Thank you for your understanding.

Use Remote desktop, much simpler If the solution is out there, let us know it was helpful, so others can benefit from it as well..

First, I don't like the idea of using XP as a VPN server to access an entire network, even a small one. Having said that, I'm gonna wear this link out, but it is the best explaination I have seen.

That's the server side, but there are client instructions on the same site for most recent versions of windows. Click on 'start' at the top.

You also might want to check out thread463-442159 . Somewhat similar situation.

If you have a firewall set up, you will have to punch a few small holes to make it work. If you don't have one, get one. Cable modem without firewall is asking for a fire.

If you are running NAT on your home LAN, some things will have to be forwarded. If you are running NAT at work, that can get wierd depending upon what kind. Report that info in your next post.

Hope this helps
