I am trying to set up a VPN on a small LAN.
The network consists of 10 PC and 1 laptop plus a server running windows 2000 server.
All the PCs including the laptop are running Windows XP Pro.
The internet connection is through a satellite. The ISP is Direcway and it comes in using a DW6000 router which then connects to a lynsys ethernet router which then connects to a 16 port switch and then CAT 5e cable going from the switch to the server and all the PCs in the offices except the Laptop.
The server is a Dell poweredge and the PCs are all Dells besides the Laptop which is a Nexlink.
The Laptop will be the machine connecting to the network via the VPN.
I belive that I have the server configured correctly - I set up Routing and Remote Access Services using the Wizard provided in Windows 2000 server. I will be using PPTP for the VPN as opposed to IPSec. I also setup the Laptop To connect to the VPN using the network connections wizard and clicked on the VPN option when prompted to.
The server has two NIC one that is configured with the local LAN IP scheme of 192.168.1.* and the other configured with the WAN address.
So far so good.
However I am not able to connect to the VPN with the Laptop. I am unsure of how to configure the router to allow pptp packets to pass through the router and the ISP that supplied the DW6000 router will not offer any support other than saying Yes the router is capable of allowing VPN connection. Poor customer service on thier part if you ask me, but anyway.
If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it, and if there is a problem with the way I described the setup I would also like you input.
