I have a W2k pro computer setup to allow VPN clients in.
I am trying to connect to it via a WinXP Pro laptop.

When the laptop and server are plugged into a hub (just those two) the laptop instantly connects (VPN) to the server when I give it the ip address 192.168.0.2.

Great! So I try the next phase i.e over boradband:

I establish an internet connection with the laptop using a simple 56K modem into the telephone line. ALL OK

Then I unplug the network cable of the server from the Hub and plug in into my ADSL modem/Router.

I check to see if the server can access the intenet. ALL OK

In the modem router (an ActionTec) I forward these ports:
(both means TCP & UDP)

PORT TYPE TO THE IP
137 both 192.168.0.2
138 both 192.168.0.2
139 both 192.168.0.2
1723 both 192.168.0.2
1701 both 192.168.0.2
0-100 both 192.168.0.2

I also have VPN pass through turned on in the modem/router

Furthermore I have the ip 192.168.0.2 out on the DMZ

Even though I have done all of this I still cannot get any further than the validating username and password screen on the laptop when attempting to VPN to the server on the static IP address given to me by my ISP of 81.130.194.x
The laptop just gives up and says the server computer didn't respond.

Any ideas?

Thanks for helping. Ralph

Robert I have just found out the solution.

My ActionTec modem cannot handle VPN comming into it only out of it.
I phoned the pay for support line (After no joy with the free support) and was told I can do:
Laptop--->ActionTec--->Internet--->InternetDevice--->VPNServer
(I tried this and yes it does work OUT)
Not
Laptop--->InternetDevice--->Internet--->ActionTec--->VPNServer
(This is obviously my problem)

The passthrough's only work OUT through the ActionTec modem to the broadband connection not FROM Broadband to the Ethernet port no matter if the VPN server is on the DMZ and I open every port on the planet.

For everyones information the ActionTec modem is model "R4500U".

Robert maybe you could include this in your great help pages as if it wasn't for them I would have given up ages ago! Someone else may be having my problem.

Oh I nearly forgot:
Error: 721 The remote computer did not respond.

Thanks Ralph.
