Hello...

I have inherited a Checkpoint NG FP3 firewall that is having an issue with the VPN. It’s a small setup with 2 locations connected via site-site VPN. The remote site connects to the main site for MS Exchange purposes. Users experience freezing in Outlook as if the remote exchange server cannot be contacted. This will happen periodically throughout the day.

I had somebody at the remote site ping the exchange server and they said they can still ping the server while this issue occurs. I trust this information about 80%

They also say this issue started after they upgraded from version 4.1 to NG.

I am relatively new to checkpoint but I am very familiar with firewalls and know my way around checkpoint.

Where should I start? How could I diagnose this? Any ideas what the issue could be?

Much appreciated

I would check the logfile, filtering on the VPN gateways and networks, see if there are any errors occuring. How was the VPN's configured, traditional mode or VPN communities? When we upgraded we had some problems with the VPN communities so we did it in the traditional mode. I don't remember what the problems were, sorry.
[cheers]
