Help!!

I wondering if anyone here works with VPN.
Here is the situation:
Desktop PC-WIN2000- Built in nic that is connected directly to router
Laptop-WIN2000- Wireless Dlink nic
Router- Wireless Linksys
Toshiba Cable modem
VPN client 3_70.30

The desktop and laptop are able to get out to the Internet through the cable modem and router. I also have file sharing setup on the desktop and laptop. When I connected to the Extranet Client to access a Novell shared drive the laptop and desktop were unable to communicate through file sharing. I have a directory on each pc setup for file sharing. If I was not connected to the Extranet client the file sharing worked. Any ideas why i cannot share the pc's while connected to VPN?

Another problem:
I make a connection to my ISP. I get connected to the VPN client. I see the Internet.
I am able to browse the NT network but unable to see any Novell servers? I have Novell client 4.83 sp1 installed. Has anyone ever seen this? Thanks! Sabina

The first problem is because all of your network traffic is being routed through your VPN client. When you try to access the other computer on your home network, the request is being sent to the other end of the VPN.

The second problem would indicate that you need to install/enable the IPX protocol for your VPN.

Afraid I can't offer much on how to make the changes as I don't work with Nortel clients very much. If you are comfortable with software configuration in general, you might try to open the setup for the Nortel client. For the first problem, look for an option similar to 'use default gateway on remote client'. If should not be marked. FYI, Nortel allows administrators to build a custom version of the client with options disabled, so it is possible that you will not be able to change this behavior.

To fix the second problem, you will need to find a section for networking protocols, add/enable IPX/SPX protocol, might be named slightly different. Again, it is possible that this option is disabled.

Sorry for nothing more specific, but maybe this will get you started.
