Hi all,

Bear with me on this because I have to create a VPN server to allow access via an ISP to our network and I have no idea of how to do it.
I have read loads of stuff on the subject and think I have created a VPN client laptop and a windows 2000 VPN server.

The trouble is, the server does not respond. We have the server conected to the internet with a static IP address and I have configured RRAS

Here is the stupid question.....Do I need a special WAN card on the server or should it respond to requests just using a LAN card, which is plugged into our router.
By the way I have had the relevant ports opened on the router.

Sorry to sound so thick...but it's all new to me

If someone could help me set this VPN up I would be most grateful

Thanx in advance

Could you ping the VPN server from the internet? When you say static public or private?

Hi UNIX72,
Yes I could ping the server form the Internet and We have a public - static IP address.

What error do you get when trying to connect? Most likely its your 2000vpn configuration. What errors are you getting in event viewer?

I recieved error 678 no answer.
But i've fixed it now. I could ping the vpn server from the intranet but not the internet.... I had to point the vpn server's default gateway (on the internet LAN card) to our router. Now I am able to browse the LAN from a ISP / VPN dial-up remote client, using win 2000...but... it won't let an NT4 workstation remote client on to the network.

Error: TCP/IP CP PPP timed out while authenticating !!

Oh well half way there...any suggestions ??

Thanx
