Hi, new to VPN and want to start off with a connection from a desktop to another desktop over broadband with no routers involved. Each machine has a dynamic ip address which i have tried using on each computer to connect to the other but get the error 800 message and no joy. But can do remote desktop ok. How can i do it or cant i as both pc's are clients?????

Steve,

I think that you answered your own question: How can i do it or cant i as both pc's are clients?????"

You do need a VPN server at one end. If your 'XP Desktop's are Home Editions you will have a problem since they do not include the VPN Server s/w. If one is a Pro Edition you will be OK since that does include the server s/w.

Good Luck

Cheers, for that. just a quick one. For some reason cant seem to find the vpn server software on xp any ideas? Using xp pro on both machines
