Vpn from windows xp professional

Hi i have setup my NT4 Server to accept vpn connections. I have configured my cisco router to allow gre tunneling. when i successfully establish a vpn connection from my windows xp professional laptop, sometimes (intermittently) i can not ping the vpn server and i dont have any network connectivity, but other times its works fine. Im only running TCP/IP on the vpn.

Has anyone got any ideas....

Help is much appreciated.
